I was asked to make a blog for the NYU IMA Low Res graduate program. (I started with no tangible experience in interaction design.) Math is nature’s poetry, and these are just diary entries.
WHEN: 1029/2024 WHAT: IMALR-GT-201Nuvole Bianche - Ludovico Einaudi
The first time I heard this song, I cried (never really cried from hearing a song sober before). It was during savasana after a yoga class. Tears escaped from the corners of my eyes as the track took me through a journey that I correlate to life itself. On the car ride back home, I listened to it as the cool, Vancouver wind blew in my hair.
The song begins soft, using 3 keys per chord on the left hand. Then, much like life, it gets slightly more complex, now requiring 4 keys per chord. As it flows through the measures, it utilizes less repitition and more of a structured chaos. Finally, it reaches a crescendo. It slows again. Then, the harmonies repeat. However, this time, the chords return to 3 keys. Much like the tribulations of living, it’s ever so slightly easier the second time around.

The piano is my favorite instrument. For my daily practice, I played this song over and over again. It’s a melody that’s been imprinted into my brain, and I catch myself constantly coming back to it in times of both joy and melancholy. I don’t know what it’s going to do for my Project 02, but I think I needed this. The past few months have been strange, and I feel out of balance.
