I was asked to make a blog for the NYU IMA Low Res graduate program. (I started with no tangible experience in interaction design.) Math is nature’s poetry, and these are just diary entries.
WHEN: 1112/2024 WHAT: IMALR-GT-201Project 02: The Philosophy of Physics
My narrowed-down research topic will be the philosophy of wave-particle duality. I must admit this was slightly inspired by my previous project, as blood is both a tissue and a liquid. I might bring in the double-slit experiment. I might not. Once again- I guess “everything” is just the same “thing” experiencing itself on all levels.

November 8 - Project 02 research plan
November 10 - Project 02 topic finalized
November 14 - Preliminary prototype/sketch
November 28 - Iterated prototype
December 12 - Project 02 presentation
December 15 - Documentation
Time is of the essence. I shall not be trying to tackle the Big Bang and subsequent predictions of parallel universes in the inflationary Universe theory. Ha.
I will be approaching this from an advertising perspective, which will be broken up into the following sections:
Define objective: to communicate the wave-particle duality that exists all around us. Everyday objects are typically seen as solid, stable "particles." However, at the atomic level, they are in constant motion due to vibrational energy- electricity... Everything is energy.
Define target audience: individuals curious about the "reality" of the world portrayed around them.
Creative execution: a small device that detects bioelectric responses/ambient vibrations/tiny electric fields of everyday objects and converts them into a different sensory format (pulses, visuals, sound?).

Chat with Margaret
Highly, severely, intensely, oddly, genuinely interesting. Margaret studied physics (one of two girls in her department). She holds a polarizing opinion from mine. I tend to be in the realm of caring too much about the universe and its vast mysteries, while she has been freed from the burden of caring (partially in thanks to the book, Against Method). I’m curious to see how suggested material from someone who holds an entirely different perspective to mine opens my mind.
